Requirements
- The Roading Stakeout and Measurement module is required.
- Key In Corridors is only available on Windows 10 controllers and is not supported on Android devices.
- Prior to Siteworks v1.20, this feature was known as Key In Roads.
The Key In Corridors feature allows you to create and edit corridor alignments, build corridor templates, and generate stakeout points directly in the field. It is particularly useful for road, driveway, drainage, and civil construction projects where corridor-based design data is required.
To access the feature:
- Open the COGO menu.
- Tap Key In Corridors.
Available Tools
Creating a Corridor Alignment
Select the Create/Edit Corridor Alignment tool to open the corridor entry screen.
You can either:
- Manually enter alignment geometry.
- Convert an existing design or work order polyline into an alignment by selecting Map.
If corridors already exist in the current design, Siteworks prompts you to:
- Edit an existing corridor, or
- Create a new corridor.
Horizontal Alignment
The horizontal alignment defines the corridor centreline.
The first record is always the Point of Beginning (POB) and contains the starting station and coordinates.
Supported Horizontal Alignment Records
| Record Type | Column 1 | Column 2 | Column 3 | Column 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| POB | Station | Northing | Easting | |
| Line | Azimuth | Length | ||
| Spiral In | Azimuth | Direction | Radius | Length |
| Arc | Azimuth | Direction | Radius | Length |
| Spiral Out | Azimuth | Direction | Radius | Length |
| Combining Spiral | Azimuth | Length |
Alignment Notes
- The software automatically calculates the tangent azimuth.
- Calculated azimuth values can be edited if required.
- Bearings can also be entered instead of azimuths. For example, S 90° W equals an azimuth of 270°.
- The end station updates automatically as alignment geometry is entered.
Select Map at any time to view the alignment in plan view.
Creating a Vertical Alignment
After completing the horizontal alignment, tap Next to create the vertical profile.
The first record is always the Point of Beginning (POB) and contains the starting station and elevation.
Supported Vertical Alignment Records
| Record Type | Column 1 | Column 2 | Column 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| POB | Station | Elevation | |
| Arc VPI | Station | Elevation | Radius |
| Vertical VPI | Station | Elevation | Length |
| Grade Break | Station | Elevation |
Vertical Alignment Requirements
- The final vertical alignment station must match the end station of the horizontal alignment.
- Use Map to display a profile view of the corridor.
If no active design exists, Siteworks prompts you to create a new design before continuing.
Creating Corridor Templates
Once the alignment has been created, select a station and tap the Create Corridor Template icon.
Templates define the cross-sectional shape of the corridor.
Common template components include:
- Pavement layers
- Shoulders
- Kerbs
- Batters
- Drainage features
- Cut and fill tie-ins
Template Building Tools
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Feature Code | Specifies the feature node being created. |
| Horizontal Distance | Distance from the previous feature node. |
| Vertical Distance | Elevation difference from the previous feature node. |
| Insert Feature Node | Creates a feature node using entered values. |
| Cut Tie Slopes | Defines cut batter slopes. |
| Fill Tie Slopes | Defines fill batter slopes. |
| Delete Node | Removes a feature node. |
| Copy Left to Right | Copies the left side template to the right side. |
| Copy Right to Left | Copies the right-side template to the left side. |
| Import Template | Loads a previously saved template. |
| Export Template | Saves a template for reuse. |
When first entering the template editor, you choose whether you are defining the left or right side of the corridor relative to the centreline.
Tap Insert to see the edge of seal on the right side of the corridor on the cross section.
Saving and Reusing Templates
When the template is complete:
- Tap ACCEPT.
- Enter a template name.
- Choose whether to save the template to the controller library.
Templates stored in the library can be reused on any project by selecting Import Template.
This can significantly reduce design time for standard road and drainage cross-sections.
Viewing Corridor Templates
Templates can be viewed:
- In Plan View
- In Cross Section View
You can also inspect templates at stations between defined template locations.
Siteworks automatically transitions between templates along the corridor, allowing changes in the corridor shape to be modelled smoothly.
Creating Stakeout Points from a Corridor
Two corridor-based point creation tools are available under:
Menu > COGO > Create Points/Arcs
Station and Offset
Create stakeout points using:
- A station along the alignment.
- A specified left or right offset.
Typical applications include:
- Kerb stakeout
- Drainage stakeout
- Service offsets
- Batter locations
Station, Offset and Deflection
Create stakeout points using:
- Station
- Offset
- Deflection angle
This is particularly useful where features cross a corridor at an angle, such as:
- Drainage crossings
- Utility crossings
- Access roads
- Intersections
Best Practice
Use templates to build standard corridor sections once and reuse them across multiple projects. Combining a well-defined alignment with reusable templates can significantly speed up field design modifications, road layout, and construction stakeout workflows.
