The Reference Line feature allows you to reference a separate line or alignment while staking out another object, such as a point, line, surface, or corridor. This provides station and offsets information relative to the selected reference line, which can be displayed during stakeout and recorded in stake records.
Common uses include:
- Staking points relative to a road centreline.
- Recording offsets from a control alignment.
- Referencing drainage, kerb, or utility alignments during construction.
- Maintaining consistent stationing when staking different design objects.
Select a Reference Line
To select a reference line:
- Navigate to Home > Settings > Reference Line.
- Select the required line or alignment from the map.
Alternatively:
- Tap and hold the desired line on the map.
- Select Select as Reference Line from the pop-up menu.
Configure Reference Line Settings
When a reference line is selected, you can optionally define:
- Horizontal Offset - Shifts the reference line left or right by a specified distance.
- Line Start Station - Assigns a starting station value to the reference line.
These settings allow the reference line stationing to match project-specific requirements.
Display Reference Station and Offset
Once a reference line is active, the following values can be added to the information bar:
- R. Sta - Reference Station
- R. Off - Reference Offset
These values update in real time as you move and can be used while staking any supported object.
This is particularly useful when the object being staked is not directly associated with the project alignment but still needs to be referenced back to it.
Recording Stakeout Information
During stakeout operations, Siteworks can record the calculated:
- Reference station
- Reference offset
along with the stakeout record, providing additional location context for reporting and as-built documentation.
Remove a Reference Line
To clear the active reference line:
Option 1
- Navigate to Home > Settings > Reference Line.
- Tap a blank area of the map.
Option 2
- Tap and hold the original line.
- Select Unselect Reference Line from the pop-up menu.
The reference station and offset calculations are then removed from the stakeout workflow.
Best Practice
Use a reference line whenever construction activities need to be tied back to a primary project alignment. For example, when staking structures, services, drainage, or earthworks features away from a road centreline, the reference line provides consistent station and offset reporting throughout the project.
