Corridor Feature Staking allows you to stake specific corridor components, such as edge of pavement, shoulder, kerb, ditch, subgrade, or daylight points, directly from a corridor model at a selected station.
Start Corridor Feature Staking
- From the Measurement screen, select Home > Stake.
- Open the object list and select the required alignment from the Road tab.
- In the Stake Method field, select Feature.
- Tap ACCEPT.
Select a Station
- Enter a station manually or select a station graphically from the map.
- The Select Corridor Feature screen appears, displaying a corridor cross-section.
- Each corridor feature is represented by a node within the section.
Select a Corridor Feature Node
Select the feature you want to stake by either:
- Tapping the node directly in the cross-section view, or
- Opening the node list and selecting the required node.
Finished Grade vs Subgrade Nodes
Feature names indicate whether the node belongs to the finished grade or a subgrade-adjusted surface.
Examples:
| Node | Description |
|---|---|
| EP | Edge of Pavement at finished grade |
| SHLD | Shoulder at finished grade |
| EP-0.250 | Edge of Pavement with a 0.250 m subgrade offset |
| SHLD-0.250 | Shoulder with a 0.250 m subgrade offset |
To enter or modify a subgrade offset:
- Tap the Corridor Settings icon, or
- Navigate to Settings > Corridor
Cross Section Orientation
By default:
- When travelling up station, the cross-section displays left-to-right.
- When travelling down station, the cross-section may appear reversed.
To change the display orientation:
- Open Home > Settings > Roads (or Corridor Settings).
- Select either:
- Up Station
- Down Station
This ensures the section is displayed in the direction most suitable for your workflow.
Navigate to the Stake Point
Once a feature node has been selected, Siteworks provides real-time guidance using:
- Design elevation
- Current elevation
- Cut/fill values
- Horizontal and vertical offsets
- Direction of travel
The information shown in the Info Bar can be customised through:
Home > Settings > Info Bar/Panel
The guide arrow can be enabled or disabled through:
Map Options > Design
For improved visibility during staking, consider enabling:
- Cut/Fill Light Bar
- Cross Section View
Fine Stake Mode
When approaching the selected corridor feature, Siteworks automatically enters Fine Stake Mode.
In Fine Stake Mode:
- Precision guidance arrows appear.
- Remaining offsets are displayed graphically.
- Screen orientation follows the selected map rotation settings.
When the stake point is within tolerance:
- The centre indicator changes to solid yellow.
GNSS Guidance
Fine navigation arrows can be displayed:
- North-up, or
- Direction-of-approach
This is controlled through the Stakeout Guide option in:
Map Options > Design
Total Station Guidance
The orientation depends on the connection type:
Bluetooth or Cable Connection
- Directions are displayed as if standing behind the instrument looking toward the prism.
Radio Connection
- Directions are displayed as if standing at the prism looking toward the instrument.
Complete the Stakeout
- Position the rod within tolerance.
- Tap Measure.
Siteworks generates:
- A Stake Marker Report
- Cross-Section Storyboard information
- Stake marking instructions
- A graphical stake-marking diagram
The calculations are based on the configured Stakeout Settings, including stake marking method, cut/fill intervals, and working stake length.
The software also remembers the last report tab viewed and automatically reopens it for subsequent stakeouts.
Fixed and Random Station Modes
Two stationing methods are available:
| Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| Fixed Station | Stake corridor features at predefined stations. |
| Random Station | Stake corridor features anywhere along the alignment based on your current perpendicular location. |
Random Station mode is useful for:
- Construction checks
- As-built verification
- Spot inspections
- Feature location reviews
Auto Advance Options
The Auto Advance setting controls what happens after a feature is staked.
Access it through:
Home > Settings > Corridor
| Setting | Result |
|---|---|
| To Next Station | Automatically moves to the next station. |
| To Previous Station | Automatically moves to the previous station. |
| No | Remains at the current station until manually changed. |
The station advancement behaviour also depends on the configured Station Interval.
Tangent Point Control
You can configure whether Siteworks automatically pauses at corridor tangent points during auto-advance.
Available options include:
| Setting | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Horizontal Only | Stop at horizontal alignment tangent points. |
| Vertical Only | Stop at vertical alignment tangent points. |
| Horizontal and Vertical | Stop at both horizontal and vertical tangent points. |
| None | Do not stop at tangent points. |
This setting is particularly useful when staking road corridors where important geometry changes occur at PI, VPI, curve, and tangent transitions.
Tip: For road construction and subgrade preparation, use a subgrade offset together with Auto Advance to Next Station. This enables fast, consistent staking of corridor features such as edge of pavement, shoulder, and batter hinge points at regular intervals along the alignment.
