The Trimble WorksManager® service provides a cloud-based connection between the office and the field, allowing users to synchronize project data, manage designs, and receive updates without physically transferring files.
WorksManager supports:
- Wireless Data Synchronisation between Siteworks and the WorksManager cloud platform.
- Internet Base Station Service (IBSS) for receiving base station corrections over the internet.
To use these services, a valid WorksManager subscription must be assigned to the controller's device ID.
Registering a Controller with WorksManager
Before a controller can communicate with WorksManager, it must be registered to your organisation's WorksManager account.
Registering a Controller (Siteworks v1.75 and Later)
- From the Home screen, select Data Management.
- Tap WorksManager Settings.
- Enter your device credentials and tap Accept.
- Select Enable WorksManager Notifications.
- Sign in with your Trimble Identity (TID) when prompted.
Select the appropriate WorksManager account.
Important Information
- The Device ID is automatically set to the controller's serial number.
- The Device Name becomes the folder name displayed in WorksManager.
- The device name cannot be easily changed after registration.
- The selected Trimble Identity must have WorksManager Administrator permissions.
- WorksManager user-level permissions are not sufficient to register or claim a device.
Note: If a device is already associated with a different WorksManager account, selecting another account will transfer the device to the newly selected account. If this occurs, update the Short Organisation Name in Siteworks to match the new account.
Android Controllers and Earlier Versions
The Enable WorksManager Notifications feature is not available on:
- Android controllers
- Siteworks versions earlier than v1.75
For these platforms:
- Open WorksManager Settings.
- Enter the device credentials.
- Tap Accept.
The device name entered in Siteworks must exactly match the device name used when registering the controller in WorksManager.
Changing the Device Name
If the device name needs to be changed, you can:
- Edit the
<DeviceFriendlyName>entry in the AllSites.xml file, or - Delete/archive the AllSites.xml file and reconfigure Siteworks.
Important: Deleting the AllSites.xml file resets Siteworks settings and requires all WorksManager credentials to be entered again.
Wireless Data Synchronisation
WorksManager eliminates the need to manually transfer files using USB drives or direct controller connections.
With an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular), project data can be transferred between the field and office directly through the cloud.
Running a Manual Synchronisation
- From the Home screen, select Data Management.
- Tap WorksManager Sync.
- Choose whether to synchronise:
- Project
- Design
- Work Order
- Select whether diagnostic data should also be uploaded.
- Tap Accept.
Siteworks will synchronise the selected data with WorksManager.
Automatic Design Notifications
Starting with Siteworks v1.75, Windows controllers can automatically receive notifications when new or updated designs become available in WorksManager.
To enable this functionality:
- Open WorksManager Settings.
- Select Enable WorksManager Notifications.
- Tap Accept.
Once enabled, Siteworks can:
- Receive notifications for new designs.
- Automatically download updated designs.
- Download designs published from Trimble Business Center.
- Download designs created directly in WorksManager.
Note: Newly downloaded designs are not automatically loaded into the active project. Users must manually select the design using the standard Change Project workflow.
Design Synchronisation Limitations
Automatic notifications only apply to design files.
The notification service does not:
- Create new project folders on the controller.
- Synchronise DC calibration files.
- Synchronise control point files.
- Synchronise background images.
- Upload work order data.
To synchronise project and work order data, continue to use the standard WorksManager Sync process.
Projects must also exist on the controller before automatic design notifications can be received.
WorksManager Status Icons
A cloud status icon appears in the upper-right corner of the Siteworks screen to indicate the current connection and synchronisation status.
Inbox Notifications
The Inbox displays notifications related to downloaded and removed designs.
You can:
- View all notifications.
- Filter by successful downloads.
- Filter by failed downloads.
- Delete individual notifications.
- Delete all notifications.
Notification cards are automatically cleared when Siteworks closes.
Checking for Missed Notifications
To manually check for updates:
- Open the Inbox.
- Tap the refresh icon next to Filter.
Siteworks also performs automatic checks when:
- Opening a project.
- Reconnecting to the internet after a connection loss.
Synchronisation Behaviour
WorksManager determines whether data should be uploaded, downloaded, or updated based on file type and file status.
| File type | Currently on WorksManager | Currently on the controller | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Work Order | Download to the controller | ||
| Upload to WorksManager | |||
| Upload to WorksManager if the file size is different | |||
| Design Data | Download to the controller | ||

| Project | Download to the controller | ||
| Upload to WorksManager | |||
| Download if file size is different | |||
| Calibration File (*.DC & *.CAL) | Download to the controller | ||
Upload to WorksManager If data that has been previously synced is deleted from WorksManager but remains on the controller, you will be prompted to delete it from the controller. | |||
| Ask when the file size is different | |||
| Field Control Point File (*.field.csv) | Download to the controller | ||

Important Notes
- SX12 scan data is not uploaded to WorksManager.
- Deleted work orders are archived on WorksManager servers.
- Deleted control point files and calibration files can be archived before removal.
- If a file has been removed from WorksManager, Siteworks may prompt you to remove the local copy during synchronisation.
Control Point File Management
Siteworks supports two control point file types:
Office Control Point File
Used to distribute approved control information from the office to the field.
Naming convention: [filename]. office.csv
Office control point files are read-only in Siteworks.
Field Control Point File
Used to store control points measured or entered in the field.
Naming convention: [filename]. field.csv
Field control point files can be edited within Siteworks.
Sharing Field Control Points
Using Trimble Business Center, office staff can:
- Retrieve field control points from a controller.
- Review and validate the data.
- Move approved points into an Office Control Point file.
- Synchronise the updated file back to other controllers through WorksManager.
This provides a controlled workflow for distributing validated control information across multiple field crews.
First-Time Project Setup
When a project is opened for the first time and no Field Control Point file exists, Siteworks automatically:
- Converts the selected control point file.
- Applies the .field.csv naming convention.
- Uses that file as the project's Field Control Point file.
After this process, Siteworks ignores standard CSV files that do not use the required naming conventions.
Only files identified as:
.office.csv.field.csv
are included in WorksManager synchronisation.
Best Practice
Register controllers to the correct WorksManager account before deployment and enable automatic notifications where supported. Use Office Control Point files to distribute approved site control and reserve Field Control Point files for measurements collected in the field. This helps maintain data integrity and ensures field crews are always working with the latest approved information.
