Siteworks starts in Measure mode by default. The Measure menu is where you carry out all your field measurement tasks and switch between measuring and stakeout as needed.
Accessing the Measure Menu
- From the Home menu, tap Measure
Note: Before using this menu, make sure your GNSS or total station is connected and set up. If not, Siteworks will guide you through the setup automatically.
What You Can Do in the Measure Menu
The Measure menu supports a wide range of on‑site tasks, including:
- Grade checking – Compare actual ground levels against your design
- Material thickness checks – Confirm layer depths (e.g. subgrade, base)
- Topographic surveys – Capture data to build surface models (DTMs) and calculate volumes
- Feature measurements – Record points and lines for site features such as kerbs, services, or edges
- Real-time cut/fill – See instant design comparison while measuring
- Stockpile scanning (total station required) – Capture stockpile volumes
- Point cloud scanning (SX10/SX12 only) – Perform high‑detail laser scanning
Choosing How Points Are Stored
In the Measure Type settings, you can control how points are recorded:
- Surface – Points are included in the DTM surface model
- Feature – Points are stored as site features only (not included in surfaces)
You can access this setting directly from the main screen using the Measure Type button.
Select Surface or Feature from the Point type field to choose if the point or line will be included in a surface or just stored as a feature.
If the Advanced Measurement module is installed, point types may be automatically controlled by your Feature Code Library (FXL).
Measuring Lines
To measure lines, use the Line options:
New Line
- Create a new line by entering a line name
- Select the line type, such as:
- Breaklines
- Volume boundaries
- Outer boundaries
Existing Line
- Select an existing line from the list
- Continue measuring from the last recorded point
Line Types and Surfaces
- Breaklines, volume boundaries, and outer boundaries are included in DTM surface creation
- Other line types (and areas) are stored as features only
Automatic closing:
- When measuring areas, volume boundaries, or outer boundaries, Siteworks will automatically close the shape to form a polygon when you finish
Field Tip
Set your Measure Type correctly before starting — it saves time later and ensures your surface models and features are recorded accurately.
