The Layers tab allows you to control the visibility of design and measured data layers within the map view. Managing layer visibility can improve map readability, particularly when working with complex designs that contain large amounts of linework and surface data.

From Siteworks v1.72, an enhanced Map Layer Visibility manager is also available directly from the map screen using the Layer Manager icon in the map controls toolbar. This provides a more interactive and efficient way to manage layer visibility.

Search for Layers

Use the Search field to quickly locate layers by name.

Enter any portion of a layer name to filter the list.
Searches are not case-sensitive.
For example, entering AR will return layers such as Area or Parking.

This can be particularly useful when working with projects containing a large number of layers.

Turn Layers On or Off

To control individual layer visibility:

Select the checkbox next to a layer name to display it.
Clear the checkbox to hide it.

To show or hide all layers at once:

Select Select/Unselect All Layers at the top of the screen.

Customise the Layer List

Resize Columns

Adjust column widths by selecting and dragging the divider in the title row.

Sort Layers

Select a column heading to sort the layer list by:

Name
Items
Visibility (checkbox column)

Sorting can help quickly locate layers within larger projects.

Filter Layers by Type

Tap to select the Filter button in the upper-right corner of the screen to display specific layer categories.

Available filters include:

Siteworks Measured Data

Displays layers containing measured data collected in the field.

Siteworks Stakeout Data

Displays layers containing stakeout-related information.

Design Layers

Displays layers contained within the currently loaded:

DXF files
DWG files
VCL design files

FXL Layers

Displays layers that:

Exist within the project's FXL file, or
Were created directly in Siteworks

Note: Creating FXL layers requires the Advanced Measurement Module.

Layers with No Data

Displays layers that currently contain no objects.

Layer Count

The Count field shows the number of layers currently displayed in the layer table.

Important: Filter options only control which layers are shown in the layer list. They do not change layer visibility on the map. Use the individual layer checkboxes to turn layers on or off.

Enhanced Map Layer Visibility (Siteworks v1.72 and later)

Siteworks v1.72 introduced an enhanced Map Layer Visibility manager that can be accessed directly from:

Plan View
Cross Section View
Profile View

Select the Layer Manager icon from the map toolbar to open the split-screen layer manager.

Key Features

The enhanced layer manager provides:

Real-time visibility control
Live map preview

The screen is divided into two sections:

Map Preview

The left side displays a live preview of the map.

As layers are turned on or off, the map updates immediately so you can see the effect before returning to your workflow.

Layer Management Panel

The right side contains a searchable and filterable list of:

Design layers
Measured layers
Stakeout layers
FXL layers

Layers can be enabled or disabled directly from this panel.

Both tools allow you to manage layer visibility, but there are some differences:

Displays a standard list view
No live map preview

Map Layer Visibility

Accessed from the Layer Manager icon on the map screen
Includes search, sorting and filtering functionality
Provides a split-screen layout
Displays a live map preview that updates in real time
Available in Siteworks v1.72 and later

SITECH Tip: When working with large design files, hide unnecessary layers to reduce screen clutter and improve map performance. The enhanced Map Layer Visibility window is often the quickest way to review and control layer visibility while remaining in the map view.
