Use the Measure feature with a vertical offset to verify whether the thickness of newly placed material meets the project requirements. The measured points are compared against the original surface plus the specified material thickness, allowing you to quickly identify areas that require additional material or trimming.
Typical Workflow
- Measure the existing surface before placing the new material.
- Save the measured surface as a design.
- Create a new work order and load the saved surface as the active design.
- Place the new material.
- Measure points on the new surface using a vertical offset equal to the target material thickness.
This method allows Siteworks to compare the measured surface against the expected finished level and calculate whether the material layer is too thick, too thin, or within tolerance.
Understanding Thickness Results
When measuring material thickness:
- Blue indicates the material is too thin and additional fill is required.
- Red indicates the material is too thick, and material needs to be removed.
- Green indicates the material thickness is within the specified tolerance, and no corrective action is required.
The coloured coverage grid provides a quick visual representation of thickness compliance across the site.
Measuring Material Thickness
- From the Home menu, tap Measure.
- Select Home > Settings > Measure.
- Ensure Measurement Offset is enabled. You can also adjust the cut/fill tolerances if required.
- Tap the Measure Type icon and enter the required material thickness as a Vertical Offset.
- Tap ACCEPT.
- Position the rod on the newly placed material and tap Measure to record a point.
As you move around the site, the information bar updates continuously. The current material depth is displayed in the Thickness field.
If the Thickness field is not visible:
- Tap Home > Settings > Info Bar/Panel.
- Enable the Thickness display option.
Reviewing Measured Points
Each measured point is displayed with a coloured grid cell showing whether the material thickness is:
- Within tolerance (green)
- Too thin (blue)
- Too thick (red)
This allows you to quickly identify areas requiring rework and confirm finished surface compliance.
Troubleshooting Grid Display
Gray Grid Cells Appear
Gray cells indicate the map is zoomed out too far to display the coverage grid at the selected resolution.
To resolve this:
- Tap the Zoom Window tool.
- Draw a box around the area containing the gray cells.
No Grid Cells Appear
- Open the map display options from the toolbar.
- Verify that:
- Coverage Grid is enabled.
- Cut/Fill: Measured is selected.
- Review the grid size setting.
If the grid size is too small and would generate more than 600,000 grid cells across the project extents, the grid will not display. Increase the grid size and refresh the view.
Tip: Use realistic tolerance values and an appropriate grid size for the area being checked. This makes it easier to identify locations where material thickness falls outside specification and helps ensure consistent quality across the site.
