Siteworks can display the elevation difference between two saved design surfaces using the Coverage Grid. This allows you to visualise cut and fill requirements across the project area without collecting additional measurements.
Display Cut/Fill Between Two Surfaces
- Load the primary design surface (Surface A) through the Open Project menu.
- Select the comparison surface (Surface B) from Settings > Second Surface.
- Open Map Options.
- Enable Coverage Grid and select Cut/Fill: Surface A-B.
The software calculates the elevation difference between the two surfaces and displays the results as coloured grid cells across the map.
Understanding the Display
The grid colours indicate the difference between the two surfaces:
- Green – Within the configured tolerance range
- Red – Cut required
- Blue – Fill required
Colour shading becomes more intense as the elevation difference increases.
This display is useful for:
- Comparing existing and proposed surfaces
- Calculating earthworks requirements
- Reviewing design revisions
- Visualising material quantities across a site
Configure Cut/Fill Display Settings
The cut/fill grid uses the same colour and tolerance settings configured in:
Settings > Measure
The following values control how the grid is displayed:
- Tolerance Above
- Tolerance Below
- Cut Display Interval
- Fill Display Interval
These settings determine when areas are displayed as within tolerance and how the graduated red and blue colour bands are applied.
Grid Size Requirements
If the selected grid size is too small to generate a practical display, Siteworks will notify you and provide the minimum grid size required to create the coverage grid.
Tip: Use a larger grid size for large project areas to improve performance and ensure the cut/fill display can be generated successfully.
