Measure When Level automatically records points whenever the GNSS receiver is held level within a defined tilt tolerance. This feature is designed for receivers that support eBubble technology, such as the SPS986 and R780, and provides a fast way to collect points without manually triggering each measurement.
Unlike Tilt Compensation, this workflow does not require an IMU-enabled receiver or a Tilt Compensation licence. It is typically used when tilt compensation is not activated.
Before You Start
Before using Measure When Level, it is recommended to:
1. Configure the eBubble Tilt Tolerance
A point is automatically recorded whenever the receiver is level within the specified tilt tolerance.
To adjust the tolerance:
- Tap the eBubble display, or
- Navigate to Home > Settings > eBubble
Set the required Tilt Tolerance value. Smaller tolerances provide higher accuracy, while larger tolerances can improve productivity.
2. Enable Device Audio
Turn up the controller volume so you can hear:
- When a point has been successfully measured and stored.
- When the receiver moves outside the configured tilt tolerance.
3. Select the Measurement Type
Choose the type of measurement you want to collect before starting:
Tap the Measure Type icon, or navigate to:
Home > Measure > Measure Type
- Select either:
- Point
- Line
For faster data collection, set Show Every Time to No.
Start Measure When Level
Tap the Measure Mode icon on the right side of the screen, or navigate to:
Home > Settings > Measure Mode
- Select Walking mode.
- Set the required pole height.
Configure the following settings:
- Record Mode = Measure When Level
- Tilt Tolerance = Required measurement tolerance
- Time Interval = Length of time the receiver must remain level before a point is recorded
The Time Interval functions similarly to the minimum observation time used in static measurements.
- Tap ACCEPT to return to the Measure screen.
Measurement Controls
The following controls become available on the measurement screen:
How Automatic Recording Works
When Measure When Level is active:
- Move the receiver to the required location.
- Hold the pole level within the configured tolerance.
- Maintain the level position for the specified time interval.
- The point is automatically recorded.
To record the next point, the receiver must first move outside the tilt tolerance and then return within tolerance. This prevents duplicate measurements while the pole remains stationary.
Benefits of Measure When Level
- Faster point collection without repeated button presses.
- Consistent measurements using eBubble guidance.
- Ideal for topo surveys and rapid surface collection.
- Reduces operator fatigue during large data capture tasks.
- Provides an efficient alternative when Tilt Compensation is not available.
Tip: For the best balance of accuracy and productivity, choose a tilt tolerance that suits the survey requirements and set an appropriate time interval to ensure stable measurements before each point is recorded.
