Use the Measure feature to compare the elevation of the design surface against the current survey rod tip position. As you move around the site, the information bar updates in real time to display the current cut/fill values.
Record a Surface Point
From the Home menu, tap Measure.
Position the survey rod at the required location.
Tap Measure to record a surface point and the cut/fill value for that location.
When a point is recorded, Siteworks displays a coloured grid cell around it. These grid cells help you identify coverage, locate areas that still require measurement, and quickly see where cut or fill is needed.
Understanding Grid Colours
Each recorded point is displayed using a colour based on its elevation difference from the design surface:
- Green – Within tolerance
- Red – Cut required
- Blue – Fill required
The intensity of the colour indicates how far the point is from design grade.
Adjusting Cut/Fill Tolerances
- From the Home menu, tap Settings > Measure.
- Enter the required cut and fill tolerance values.
- Tap ACCEPT to save the changes.
The tolerance settings determine when a point is considered on grade (green) or when cut/fill colours are applied.
Coverage Grid Display
The software creates a coloured coverage grid around each recorded point. The grid size is configured in:
Settings > Map Display Settings > Measure
This coverage grid helps you:
- Visualise surveyed areas
- Identify gaps in coverage
- Monitor cut and fill conditions across the site
Troubleshooting Grid Display
Gray Grid Cells Appear
Gray cells indicate the map is zoomed out too far to display the grid at the selected resolution.
To resolve this:
- Tap the Zoom Window tool.
- Draw a box around the area containing the gray cells.
No Grid Cells Appear
- Open the map display options from the toolbar.
- Confirm that:
- Coverage Grid is enabled.
- Cut/Fill: Measured is selected.
- Check the grid size setting.
If the grid size is set too small and would create more than 600,000 grid cells across the project area, the grid will not display. Increase the grid size and refresh the view.
Cut/Fill Colour Intervals
Grid cut/fill colours are displayed using four graduated shades of blue (fill) and four graduated shades of red (cut).
These display intervals are configured in:
Home > Settings > Measure
The settings include:
- Tolerance Above – Maximum height above design grade that is still considered within tolerance (green).
- Tolerance Below – Maximum depth below design grade that is still considered within tolerance (green).
- Cut Display Interval – Elevation range represented by each shade of red.
- Fill Display Interval – Elevation range represented by each shade of blue.
Cut and fill intervals can be configured independently, allowing you to tailor the display to your project's requirements.
Tip: Use appropriate tolerance and interval values for your project to make grade variations easier to identify and interpret in the field.
